Leben und Karriere

Mitchell wurde in Clawson, Michigan geboren und absolvierte die Florida State University mit einem MFA in Produktion.cite-ref-2[2] Er wurde als Mitglied der Jury der Internationalen Kritikerwoche 2016 des Filmfestivals von Cannes benannt.cite-ref-3[3]

2010 erschien sein Filmdebüt, das Coming-of-Age-Drama The Myth of the American Sleepover. 2014 folgte der Horrorfilm It Follows. Der Independent-Film wurde von der Kritik gelobt und entwickelte sich auch dank seines niedrigen Budgets zu einem großen kommerziellen Erfolg.cite-ref-4[4]cite-ref-boxofficemojo2-5-0[5]

Mit Under the Silver Lake, einem modernen Film noir im Setting des modernen Los Angeles, entstand 2018 sein drittes Werk, bei dem er erneut als Regisseur und Drehbuchautor fungierte. Der Film konnte an den finanziellen Erfolg von It Follows nicht anschließend und stieß zunächst auf eine geteilte Resonanz, entwickelte sich aber mit der Zeit zu einem Kultfilm.cite-ref-6[6]cite-ref-7[7]
